Claude Puel has been sacked as coach of Southampton.

The Frenchman leaves after only one season in control at St Mary's.

Southampton chiefs pulled the trigger, subsequent to concurring a pay-off with Puel, who had two years left on the signed agreement last summer.

Puel drove Southampton to the EFL Cup final and an eighth-place finish.

"Southampton Football Club can today affirm that it has ended the agreement of Claude Puel with prompt impact.

"Everybody at Southampton might want to express our gratitude to Claude for his diligent work and duty this year. The highlight of the season was an important day at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final, a day our fans will dependably treasure.

"We wish Claude well for what's to come. The scan for another administrative team is in progress. We are certain that we will locate the correct fit in accordance with the long haul vision of the club," a Southampton statement said.
