Roney to reconsider his decision to resign from international football - Roy Hodgson

Former England manager, Roy Hodgson has declared that star striker, Wayne Rooney may reexamine his choice to resign from international football and return to the national team.

Hodgson said, "I think he can play in the national team. It's a pity he will miss the next World Cup for England.

"If I was still the manager I would attempt to persuade him to defer it (his international retirement) until after the World Cup," He included.

Rooney bailed from England national team obligation on Wednesday.

"You don't score that number of goals if you are not a top class footballer. I trust he will alter his opinion to return for the World Cup. I think England still needs him," Hodgson revealed to Sky Sports on Thursday.

"As you know, I'm not a betting man and never have been, but had I been such a person I wouldn't put any cash on Wayne, in that circumstance, declining to leave retirement.

“I know what this country does mean to him in terms of playing international football,” Hodgson said".
